Samples from a changing ocean
This field report is made for a desktop screen.
The changing ocean–atmosphere system does not stop with rainfall. Parts of the Pacific are experiencing some of the world’s fastest rates of sea level rise. Sea level anomalies [SLA] across the nine Pacific Island countries in this project show considerable year-to-year variability, alongside an overall increase between 2000 and 2025.
The blue highlights mark where the 2025 annual mean anomaly sits within each country’s observed range. For most, it lies near the upper end of the range, showing that 2025 was among the higher-anomaly years in the period.
Explore how sea level anomalies have changed over time, compare countries, and identify where the largest increases have occurred across the Pacific.
The blue highlight and the value show the annual mean sea level anomaly recorded in 2025.
The bold contour marks the 0 cm SLA, providing the reference baseline.
Each contour corresponds to a five-year observation, illustrating how sea level anomalies changed through time.
